Managing Director

Fuse Theatre Ensemble is looking for a part-time Managing Director to help manage our team and upcoming projects. This position would be the driving force to coordinate and organize our various departments via meetings and business planning. 

Position Summary

Fuse Theatre Ensemble is looking for a part-time Managing Director to help manage our team and upcoming projects. This position would coordinate between departments, make major company decisions, communicate with stakeholders inside and outside the theatre, and manage employee needs and welfare.


In many ways, this position has few required tasks, but is designed to pick up the slack in multiple departments and ensure communication and coordination between departments and stakeholders is smooth and easy. The ideal candidate would be hard working, imaginative, detail oriented, and comfortable and happy to work within the Queer community, with a strong focus on equity, diversity, and inclusion. 

Job Duties:

  • Attend weekly meetings with technical, artistic, business, and front of house teams

  • Respond to renter, collaborator, and employee needs within the company

  • Coordinate company projects

  • Participate in and manage fundraising efforts

  • Assist in website management

  • Coordinate marketing efforts 

  • Respond to emergency theatre needs

  • Grant writing

  • Budget planning

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:

  • Interest in theatre

  • Knowledge of theatre management

  • Ability to manage your own time

  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and priorities

  • Ability to communicate with clarity and kindness with people of all walks of life

  • Experience working or volunteering for a non-profit organization

  • Creativity and ability to work collaboratively and meet deadlines

  • A community-mindset and the ability and desire to help a team

  • Adaptability and quick thinking

  • Reliable transportation

Schedule: This position is expected to be 8-10 hours per week. There is no set schedule as long as your work is completed in a reasonable time frame. Most pressing concerns for the theatre occur Thursday-Sunday, so the Managing Director should be available to assist most weekends.

Compensation: $25/hr

Desired Start Date: August 2024

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Ideal candidates will spend some of their time working in the theatre (located at 4319 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland) and some time working remotely from a personal device



  • Management (2+ years experience)

  • Theatrical organizations (2+ years experience)
